 What about EDM 310?

Heading into EDM 310, I heard many things about this course. I must say most of the things I heard about this course were on the negative side. Most people always say how hard it is and how complicated the activities can be. Some people also wondered why this course was required for teachers. Of course, I heard so positive things as well. I had a friend who talked about how she went into the course with such fear and exited the course thinking about how much more she learned than expected. I have also heard that as long as you stay ahead and don't get behind on blogs & assignments, turn in work on time, and ask questions then you should be fine. Also, make sure you use the checklist given. I am not going to lie, though I've heard some positive things about this class, I still entered the first day of class fearful. Fearful of what, I can't truly say, but I think it is the rumor that this class is so complicated and confusing.

If I had to compare and contrast this class with any other classes I have taken I would probably compare it to a class I took way back in the day. The class was called Computer Discovery. I believe I took this class around 7th or 8th grade, and I actually enjoyed  it. In that class, we learned about operating computers of course and different documents and terms about computers. We learned things such as keyboarding, word processing, desktop publishing, spreadsheets, and media presentations. 

The most difficult thing for me about this class will probably be the activities that involve using a Macintosh. Though it was stated we don't necessarily have to have a Macintosh, I know it will take more time and work doing those activities on a PC. So in order for me to make sure I fully understand how to complete those assignments on my PC, I know I will have to take full advantage of the computer lab as well as the lab assistants. And as far, as any other fears and questions about EDM 310, I think the syllabus pretty much explained to me what this class is all about and what I have to do to succeed in this class. The main points I took from the syllabus is  to make sure I manage my time wisely and to complete each assignment or blogs on time.

My name is Santana Mullins. Everyone always says Santana, oh cool like the legendary guitar player. Sometimes it saddens me to tell them, no like the name of a character from a soap opera. I always asked my mom why she just could not go with the musician, but it's always a funny little story to tell when I am trying to break the ice in a conversation or something. I am a Mississippi girl. I was born and raised in a small city called Laurel, Mississippi. It's one of those places where everyone knows everyone as well as their business. Laurel was all I had really known before my family moved about two years ago. Speaking of family, I have a wonderful husband, Matthew, who is also from Laurel. Later this year, we will have been together 10 years. I've pretty much known of him most of my life being that Laurel is so small. We ran in the same circles, but didn't really know each other too well. We just happened to run into each other my first year of junior college, dated a few years, got married and had an amazing son. That amazing son is Brayden. He is awesome! I always say, he is 3 going on 30. He is just the smartest and coolest little boy, and I am so thankful and blessed to have him as well as my husband in my life. When I am not hanging with my guys or being a full-time student, I have many other interests and hobbies. I am a big sports fanatic and I will watch any sport that keeps me interested. My favorite sport is basketball, and I try to play or shoot around at least once a week. I also love to read. Though I love a good physical book, there's nothing like being able to sit back and relax reading books on my iPad. I haven't always been the most creative person, but since having my son, Pinterest has become my best friend. There are so many activities and recipes I love to try and also get help from my son. This is just a little info about me and I can't wait to learn about a lot of you as well,

Growing up, teachers, parents, friends and whomever else always ask you what you want to be when you get older. Since I was always obsessed with basketball, I would of course say I wanted to become a basketball player. There was this one teacher though, til this day, who has always stuck with me, my first grade teacher, Mrs. Pulliam. I always thought she was the prettiest and sweetest teacher. She was so kind, and made me feel like I could ask her anything because I was a shy child growing up. I bring up Mrs. Pulliam because though I would always say I wanted to become a basketball player, it was her who kind of made me want to become a teacher as I got older. As I got older, I saw that yeah I loved basketball, but it wasn't something I saw myself doing for the rest of my life. Then career day came up in school, and I thought of Mrs. Pulliam and how she was that teacher who made me feel not only smart but confident. So in a way, I think I've always known I would become a teacher, but I think it took my son to solidify it. Having Brayden was a blessing. It not only showed me the importance of being a mom, and having to think about someone else before myself, but it also showed me that I want to make sure he as well as others get the chance to have a Mrs. Pulliam. Teachers like Mrs. Pulliam are prime examples of just how important educators can be in a student's life. Educators not only teach and prepare you with the skills you need in the world, but some can also such a major impact that it changes your life.

Passion. Passion can be described as something that one has great enthusiasm for. For awhile, as I mentioned above, I thought my passion was basketball. Then, I grew up, got smarter, found out who I really am and came to the conclusion that my passion is teaching and learning. I don't just mean teaching and learning as an educator, but teaching and learning about life as well. My goal is to inspire students and people of all ages to be themselves and believe in themselves. I want them to see how special and unique each of us truly are. In the process of teaching, I also know that I can learn from my future students and others too. As much as I am excited about teaching, I am that much more excited about learning new things. Times are constantly changing as well as technology, so there is always room to grow. Teaching wasn't always my first choice of careers, but one cannot become a teacher if they don't have the passion or love for it. Someday I hope to look back and see that I was a Mrs. Pulliam to someone and helped inspire their passion in life.
